Origin of the term

Some evidence that the term 'book of shadows' was used in an account of Anne Bodenham's witchcraft trial at Salisbury in 1653: "According to legend, after the execution her ‘book of shadows’ was burnt, signifying not merely the intrinsic wickedness of such a text but the waywardness of its owner." https://scispace.com/pdf/witchcraft-politics-and-memory-in-seventeenth-century-1r5ct761fi.pdf ps.
